Triple death by…
Seriously? It’s Saturday morning. I mean what kind of message is that suppose to send to us weekenders? We’re not the AGRO, aggressive, 5:30p class that blares heavy-metal music, max’s out everything all the time, grunts, growls, hyper-ventilates, curses, spits, sweats and ultimately collapses on the floor in a jumbled mass of sweat and muscle. We like to start with a few child poses then maybe move on to a downward dog or two. We talk about yoga classes and triathlons and running.
And what’s this “death by” anyway? And three of them? I like burpee pull-ups, burpee box jumps and just plain old burpees as much as the next, but they can stand on their own, there’s no need to tie them together. Give them some space: some room to breath. No need to go straight from the burpee into the pull up or burpee into the box jump. It’s Saturday morning, slow down for goodness sake.
Or not. Seems the new guy (read uber fit guest coach with legs the size of telephone poles) has an idea. And he’s excited about it! “Death by” means you do as many as you can until you can’t. Or “until you die.” No joke, and this is considered normal conversation. Rules are pretty simple. First minute do one burpee / pull up, next minute do two, and so on until you can’t (meaning stop because you can’t do any more). Then start the burpee / box jumps and do them on the minute until you can’t (meaning collapse in pain and wonder why you volunteered to come to class) and then, just for fun, do burpees, just burpees, in the same pattern until you can’t (meaning collapse on the floor in a jumbled mass of sweat and muscle like the AGRO 5:30p folks). Seriously? But its the weekend…
